Getting Ready for Today’s Social Media Webinar

Hi All,

I am sitting at my desk, going over my material for today’s webinar.  It is a funny feeling in me, butterflies are running rampant in my stomach.   It reminds me of the time I had to do a rock climbing and then repelling down off down off the cliff.  I remember my coaches, saying “we all have butterflies in our stomach, the goal is to get the butterflies to fly in unison.”  All I could think at the time was, you guys are crazy, these butterflies are going to do what they want. I have to admit, the butterflies did flutter in every direction, until I took the step off the ledge. After that, the butterflies and I became as one and we made it down the mountain, to live and tell this story.

And that is what I will hope will happen today.

3 Quick Tips on showing up on Google Search

Hi All,

Are you updating your website frequently? If you are great you are on the right path to having your website show-up when a potential client is searching for you on Google.  If not, it time to rethink your strategy.

Google recently implemented a new  search algorithm called Panda.  From my understanding, this algorithm looks to see if the information on websites is fresh and updated regularly.

Specifically, Google says the update will impact searches for recent events or “hot topics,” regularly occurring events, and searches for information that changes often but isn’t necessarily a trending topic or recurring event.

So what can you do to help you on the path to showing up in search results…

  • •  Go back and take a  long look at your website.
  • Look to see when was the last time you updated it
  • Update fresh content regularly
  • Suggestions:
  • Use your Travel Agent FAM experience, to showcase where you have been, tell a story…
  •  Recommendations on what to do a on a cruise vacation
  • Use a blog on your website to update information about your product, services and experiences.
  • If you have a separate blog, merge it with your website
  • Look at what is “hot topic” now and consider posting about it
  • Make it relevant to your community

Till next time, see you on Facebook.

Facebook Business -gets a makeover

Hi All,

Did you ever want to change your type of business, now you can with the new FB Business Page?  The New FB Biz page can be previewed now but will become permanent on March 10th.  So you should begin to play with it to get a feel of what you can do and not do.

  • Your information box on the left hand side will no longer be on the page. Use your Basic information area to promote your business
  • A row of pictures will be at the top, you can edit them, too. Click on picture, once and X appears to remove image.
  • Now you can update, not only as a person on your personal wall but as your business, how cool is that?
  • You can have featured likes on your left hand side of your page.
  • Featured administrators too
  • On right hand side, click on view as administrator, to view your insights.  See where your likes are coming in from the internet. What day were your post up.  And what posts have your visitors been viewing.  There is a wealth of knowledge there.

More to come… stay tuned

“Feeling Valued”

Hi Everyone,

Still thinking about which way to go with you social media?  As I continue my research you on the subject, we begin to see a pattern on how much time we are spending on social media sites trying to connect with our clients.  We should not forget to still use the traditional forms of communication.  For some of us, (including me sometimes) here is a reminder.

Clients want to be valued!

  • Connect in person
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Website and Blog

It is important to be using social media but do not get carried away with jumping on every new application.  Pick accordingly.  I always come back to the acronym K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple and Sincere.    That is my version and I do believe it.

Make it a good one everyone.

Android & Me

Hi All,

Been working with my new android for a week now.  So far so good.  Although with the announcement by Verizon that the IPhone is coming out in February, what’s a girl to do?

The Galaxy is fast and sleek but I have grown attached to the IPhone.  Unfortunately as a phone it did not work so well.  At least, for me it didn’t. The Galaxy has not had any dropped calls and is working smoothly.  The phone allows me to update and to tweet right from the desktop page.  Right now we are testing to see if we can get our calendar from the Verizon Phone to Mac, we shall see.

I am still missing my IPhone.

Keep it Simple

Hi Everyone,

As we are heading into the weekend, I wanted to you somethings to ponder.

According to an article I just recently read (sorry forgot where I saw it)  that 65% of people go on Facebook in the evenings and weekends.  So maybe it is time to consider when we should be posting?

Next topic, do you feel overwhelmed by all the new and exciting new social media tools that come out each day and you feel like you can’t keep up.  I know sometimes I do.  So, I think it is important to keep in mind that Social Media is only one part of your strategy in relationship building.  It is not the “Silver Bullet” that businesses thought it could be.

Social Media just like all good relationships in business is about connections, listening and sharing good information.  Pick the platform that you and your clients are using and keep it simple. Just remember to:

  • listen
  • share
  • share some more
  • truthful

it is a start.

In a Nutshell – FB allowing You to take your data with you!

Happy Friday Everyone,

Facebook will now allow us to download all your data that you have created on Facebook including friends, events, notes, etc.  the information will come as a .zip file for us to use any way you see fit.  So far the download has been offered to me but once it is I will be following up on it.

To download your .zip file, go to account setting in the upper right hand corner of your FB Page.  BTW, it is being rolled out over the next few days, so we may need to wait a few days longer.

Personally, I love the idea, all those great photos, people we have connected to will be available to us to use as we see fit.

Just follow the following steps: Information from Gadget Wise Blogs from the NY Times.

Once the Zip file is downloaded to your computer, just double-click it to see what’s in there. There’s an index page that, when double-clicked, will open in your browser. A simplified profile page links to your photos, videos, etc. Or you can skip the index page and use your computer’s desktop to open, say, the photos folder inside the file to see all your photos saved. The company has prepared a 90-second instructional video on the feature.

I guess it is “all good things come to those who wait!”
